JetPack 7.x: What the Releases Really Deliver (September 2026)

A quick status of the JetPack world, without marketing — measured where possible.

JetPack 7.2/7.2.1

JetPack 7.2 brought the major novelties from the GTC announcements: Agent Skills for video workflows and a fresh CUDA stack. 7.2.1 is a maintenance release (bugfixes, stability in the inference stack). For Orin owners: the update is worth it; no known breaking changes.

Jetson Orin Nano 2 — announced

NVIDIA has announced the successor to the Orin Nano Super, shipping in the first half of 2027. What matters until then: the current Orin boards remain fully supported — JetPack 7.x serves them in parallel. No reason to stop buying.

What this means for local AI computing

The more interesting trend runs under the hood: agent frameworks (skills, tool-calling) are becoming part of the JetPack stack. If you run Ollama plus a 3–8B model on your Orin today, you’re well positioned for the next stage — the models are getting smaller and more capable, and the boards stay.

An honest assessment: marketing TOPS are marketing. What counts is measured tokens/s for your model and your thermal setup. That is exactly what I measure and document here.
